What mental health clinic SEO and AI visibility cost
An honest guide to how this work is priced, what drives the cost up or down, and what you should see in return. No invented averages.
Why the price varies so much
Two quotes for “SEO for a mental health clinic” can differ several times over and both be reasonable. One might cover a technical review and some page edits. Another might include monthly content written with your clinicians, directory management, outreach and reporting. Comparing them on price alone tells you very little.
The useful question is not what it costs, but what will be done each month, by whom, and how you will know if it is working.
The main pricing models
Monthly retainer
A fixed monthly fee for an agreed scope of ongoing work. Common for SEO and outreach. Works well when the scope is clear and reported each month. Check the minimum term and notice period.
One off project
A fixed price for a defined piece of work, such as a website audit, a rewrite of service pages or a directory clean up. Useful as a first step, or if you have someone in house to maintain things afterwards.
Day rate or hourly
Common with freelancers and consultants. Flexible, but agree what a day produces.
Monthly plan
A fixed monthly price for a defined service, often combining software that does the measuring with people who do the work. Our own plans work this way: Essentials at £25 a month, Growth at £100 a month, Partner at £195 a month, each with a 14-day free trial and no minimum term. See pricing for what each includes.
Performance based
Fees tied to rankings or leads. Be careful. It can encourage short term tactics, and for a health service it can create pressure towards claims or methods you would not otherwise accept.
What drives the cost
- Number of services and specialties. Each needs its own page and its own patient questions.
- Number of locations, and whether you see patients face to face, online or both.
- Number of clinicians who need pages, profiles and directory listings.
- Competition in your area. Central London is not the same as a market town.
- The state of your website. Technical problems and missing pages take time to fix.
- Clinical review. Content about assessments, therapy and medication needs your clinicians’ time.
- Whether outreach is included. Approaching publications and podcasts takes time and follow up.
What you should get each month
Whatever you pay, a monthly service should give you evidence of work and evidence of results, separately.
- A list of what was done: pages written or changed, listings corrected, outreach sent.
- The exact searches and AI questions tracked, and the same ones each month.
- Results with dates, including what AI tools said and which sources they cited.
- What changed since last month, good or bad.
- What is planned next, and anything waiting for your approval.
When results can show
Honest timelines, based on the kind of work rather than a promise:
- Fixing wrong facts, such as an old address or a service you no longer offer: often visible in AI answers and Google within weeks, once the sources are updated and read again.
- New or rewritten service pages: usually a few months to settle in Google for local searches.
- Independent mentions: unpredictable. One good piece of coverage can matter more than months of small changes, but nobody can schedule it.
- Competitive searches in large cities: expect a longer, steadier effort.
Doing it in house, or paying someone
Much of this work can be done by a capable practice manager with time set aside: keeping directory profiles current, updating fees and waits, and checking what AI tools say for a handful of questions each month. The cost is staff time, and the risk is that it slips when the clinic is busy.
Paying a supplier makes most sense for the parts that need specialist skill or steady effort: rewriting service pages so they answer patients’ questions, structured data, technical fixes, outreach to publications and podcasts, and repeated, dated checks across AI tools. A common middle route is to pay for the measuring and advice, and do the fixes yourself.
Whichever you choose, keep ownership of your website, your Google Business Profile and your directory logins. If you part company with a supplier, everything should stay with you.
How to compare quotes
Put each quote into the same simple table: monthly cost, minimum term, what is done each month, who writes clinical content, how results are measured and what you keep if you leave. The cheapest option is rarely the one that costs least over a year, and neither is the most expensive.

Questions clinic owners ask
How much should a mental health clinic spend on SEO?
There is no right figure. It depends on how many services and locations you have, how competitive your area is, the state of your website and how much content needs writing. Set a budget you can sustain for at least six months, and judge suppliers on what they will do and how they will measure it.
Is AI visibility work an extra cost on top of SEO?
It overlaps heavily. Clear pages, consistent facts and independent mentions help in both. The genuinely extra part is measuring AI answers, because that needs repeated checks across tools.
How quickly will we see results?
Correcting facts and listings can change answers within weeks. Pages and reputation for competitive searches usually take months. Be wary of anyone who promises a ranking or an AI recommendation by a date.
Why don’t you publish typical agency prices?
Because we cannot verify them fairly. Fees vary widely with scope, and published averages often compare very different services. We would rather explain the pricing models and publish our own prices.
What should a monthly report include?
What was done, the exact searches or questions tracked, the results with dates, what changed since last month and what happens next. You should be able to check the results yourself.
